Abstract

Adipic acid is prepared by the oxidation of cyclohexene in the liquid phase with aqueous nitric acid characterised in that the oxidation is performed in the presence of both vanadium and copper, either as such or in the form of their oxides or salts, the amount of copper which is present being 1 to 40 parts by weight per part of vanadium present. The cyclohexene may be provided as a technical mixture of cyclohexane and cyclohexene.
