A liquid distribution or discharge device for use in a centrifugal liquid-liquid contactor of the type described in Specification 1,058,767 (in which a contacting drum rotating about a shaft is fed with a lighter and a heavier immiscible liquid d through respective radially extending tubes (10) connected with supply bores in the shaft, similar provision being made for withdrawal) comprises a tube (10) having a series of longitudinally spaced openings (34) and a plurality of sleeves (18-22 and 25) removably positioned in end-to-end relation in said tube, one of said sleeves (25) being closed at one end (38) and having an opening therein; said sleeves being able to be arranged so that the opening in said one sleeve (25) can be brought into register with any one of said openings in the tube. As shown in Fig. 1, to which the above numerals relate, there are preferably a plurality of circumferential openings 34 at each level in the tube and corresponding openings in sleeve 25. The device differs from that of Specification 1,058,767 in the provision of the closed end 38 of sleeve 25, which enables liquid to flow directly into the contacting drum without filling the whole tube 10, and, by inverting sleeve 25, enables the tube to be sealed, so that the drum may function to separate heavier and lighter phases of a feed liquid.
