Abstract
1,068,485. Moulding anchorage fitting. TELEFLEX Inc. Sept. 17, 1965, No. 39742/65. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F2] A conduit assembly comprises a flexible tube 12 covered by a sheath of helically wound wires 14 and enclosed in a flexible casing 16 on to which a fitting 44 of organic polymeric material is bonded to surround the end with the bent ends 15 of at least some of the wires 14 embedded in the said fitting to form a mechanical interlock therewith. The conduit forms the casing for a flexible control cable (Fig. 1, not shown) which is slidable inside the tube 12 and the fitting 44 forms an anchorage for the end of the conduit. The square cut end of the conduit is first placed inside a snug-fitting bore in a metal die whilst the cylindrical end of a punch is inserted inside the tube 12, Fig. 3, not shown. Continuous with its cylindrical end the punch has a frusto-conical portion which is driven into the end of the conduit to splay it out and, particularly, to deform the ends of the wires as at 15. The splayed end of the conduit, duly plugged at 48 by a pin is placed inside the cavity of a split mould (Fig. 4, not shown) and the fitting 44 is injection moulded on to it in a plastic material. The tube 12 may be of a polyamide resin and casing 16 of the same material or of a polyvinyl resin. In an alternative form the fitting has two annular flanges 46 spaced apart axially to receive a clamping band.
