Abstract

1,068,352. Drying apparatus. WHIRLPOOL CORPORATION. Feb. 10, 1965 [Feb. 28, 1964], No. 5846/65. Heading F4G. The invention relates to a tumbler drying machine of the kind in which ring electrodes in the drum discharge a capacitor 113 through wet clothes, until the required dryness is reached whereupon the capacitor discharges through a discharge tube 115 to switch off the heater 103, and motor 16. According to this invention a recycling relay 130 is provided to extend the operation and ensure the clothes are fully dried. In operation when the capacitor first discharges through the tube 115 and the base-emitter circuit of transistor 116 to cut off S.C.R. 97 for about half a second, and de-energize relays 82, 130. However, as relay 130 releases slowly a circuit is maintained for about a second over contact 132 so that relay 82 picks up when S.C.R. 97 conducts again, and drying is continued while the capacitor 113 recharges through resistors 109, 109, and 112, and eventually discharges through tube 115 to terminate the operation.
