Abstract
Cyclohexadienes are obtained by reduction of the corresponding benzene by reaction with lithium in the presence of liquid ammonia and the substantial absence of any other hydrolytic agent (i.e. material reacting with lithium to produce hydrogen). Reaction is effected with 0.25-10 g. atoms of lithium and 3-100 moles per mole of aromatic reactant at 10-135 DEG C. and 2-300 atmospheres. Inert gases or solvents may be present.
