Abstract

1,067,835. Pneumatic control means for doors having inflatable seals. SOCIETE D' ELECTRO-CHIMIE D'ELECTRO-METALLURGIE ET DES ACIERIES ELECTRIQUES D'UGINE. April 20, 1964 [April 22, 1963], No. 16216/64. Heading E2M. A pneumatic control device for at least one inflatable joint or gasket, comprises means for the direct application of the pressure of an inflatable joint or gasket as information for feeding into a logical pneumatic device and means for the direct application of the outlet pressure of this sequence to control the operation of the inflatable joint or gasket. As described, the system refers to two doors having inflatable gaskets for sealing purposes, an object of the invention being to ensure that one gasket cannot be deflated unless the other is inflated. Fig. 1 shows the position of the hydraulic system with seal G1 inflated and seal G2 deflated, dotted lines refer to pipelines at datum pressure and continuous lines to pipelines at operating pressure, 6 and 7 are the operating valves for G1 and G2 and distributors 1, 2, 3, 4 of the rocking or seesaw type (Fig. 4) constitute the control system. The distributors are as described in Specification 1,016,688. If an attampt is made to deflate G1 while G2 is still deflated by operating 6 to suit a datum pressure signal to valve 1, this has no effect for both input and output of valve 1 are at this pressure, consequently Gl remains inflated. If however G2 is now inflated by operation of valve 7 this causes the valve 3 to effect the input pressure of valve 4 to be at datum pressure and this further allows air to inflate G2 this pressure then operates valve 1 and consequently valve 2 to deflate G1. This control system may also be used for control between a gasket and the pressure inside an enclosed container.
