Abstract

1,067,396. Device for measuring the radioactivity of water. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Aug. 3, 1965 [Aug. 12, 1964], No. 33144/65. Heading G1A. An immersible watertight container includes a pulse producing detector, such as a Geiger counter, a bank of Geiger counters, or a combined scintillator and photo-multiplier, in a sheath depending from the bottom of the container; an amplifier; a counter; a memory; a magnetic recorder; high and low voltage power sources; and a programmer, the last named controlling the counting period, which is adjustable from five to twenty minutes, and the recording of the counts on the magnetic recorder. The measured information may be transmitted by radio or by ultrasonic means, and in the case of the former a cable may extend to an antenna above the surface. The high voltage may be derived from the low voltage source which may be a storage battery, and recharging may be by solar cells. A switch and a hoisting ring are attached to the outside of the container and lead rings are attached to achieve a desired depth.
