Abstract

Glucose is determined by contacting the sample, e.g. of blood, to be tested with a reagent solution comprising glucose oxidase, catalase, an alcohol, a b -diketone and an ammonium salt, and determining the optical density of the developed colour. The reagent may be produced from a test pack comprising (a) a mixture of glucose oxidase and catalase, (b) an alcoholic solution of an ammonium salt and (c) an alcoholic solution of a b -diketone. Specified alcohols are methyl and ethyl alcohols; specified b -diketones are acetylacetone, methylacetoacetate and ethylacetoacetate; specified ammonium salts are ammonium acetate and mono-and di-ammonium phosphate. In the examples, the specified ingredients are made up with water to form an aqueous solution.
