Abstract

1,066,922. Data transmission; automatic exchange systems. AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC LABORATORIES Inc. March 9, 1965 [March 18, 1964; June 5, 1964], No. 10001/65. Headings H4P and H4K. The receiver in a system in which data is transmitted by carrier phase shift, N.R.Z. invert coding being employed, comprises a lowpass filter, which smoothes the received signal at the phase reversal points; and differentiating means to derive transition pulses from the filter output. The pulses pass to an integrating circuit which gives an output only when adjacent pulses are separated by more than a half cycle of the carrier, thereby indicating 1 bits, and also to means fed by the integrator, which gives an output indicating a 0 bit whenever there is no 1 bit from the integrator. The binary data thus produced passes to a shift register under the control of clock pulses derived from the received signals. The receiver forms part of a transceiver, there being means for preventing transmission during reception, and vice versa. The shift register is used at the transmitter input and at the receiver output. A telephone switching control system as described in Specification 1,066,921 is described for use in association with such transceivers.
