Abstract
Novel isoquinolones of the formula <FORM:1066917/C2/1> (wherein R1 is phenyl or C1- 7 alkyl; R2 i benzyl, C1- 7 alkyl or a C1- 7 alkyl-substituted benzyl group; R3 is C1- 7 alkyl; and R4, R5 and R6 are C1- 7 alkyl or C1- 7 alkoxy; and the broken lines denote that the groups attached thereby are optional; and wherein at least one of R1 and R2 is present and is other than C1- 7 alkyl) and acid-addition salts thereof, are prepared by treating an acid or ester of the formula <FORM:1066917/C2/2> (wherein R7 is C1- 7 alkyl) with a dehydrating agent. This acid or ester is prepared in turn by the methods disclosed in Specifications 1,066,918 and 1,066,919 which, although in these Specifications are restricted to the preparation of compounds represented by general formulae of narrower scope than those necessary in the present process, are, nevertheless, generally applicable to the preparation of the present starting materials. The isoquinolones of the invention, which are stated to be short-acting vaso depressors, may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions for enteral or parenteral administration.
