Abstract

1,066,395. Making electrical connections. AMP Inc. May 12, 1965 [May 14, 1964], No. 19963/65. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H2] In a hand tool, similar to those described in Specifications 1,026,970 and 1,008,673, for making electrical connections, a clip pusher 34 engages the leading terminal clip 2<SP>1</SP> of a strip of terminals by means of the inwardly turned ends (42) of a pair of arms (41) mounted in a recess of the clip pusher 34 (Fig. 7, not shown). Forward movement of the pusher moves the strip forwards and the leading clip 2<SP>1</SP> is severed therefrom, movement of the strip being prevented by abutment with a stop 74. The clip 2<SP>1</SP> moves against a wire 12 and drags it over the upper surface of a mandrel 46 and a scraper 82, which removes part of the insulating film on the wire. The tool is applied to a terminal post (14a) (Fig. 4, not shown) with a shoulder 51 on the mandrel disposed against the top of the post. The tool is pushed against the post to bring about a further movement of the pusher 34 relative to the mandrel 46 and the clip is driven to the lower end of the post. The tool is reset and a suitable length of wire is pulled from a spool (90) (Fig. 1, not shown) thereby allowing a number of posts (14a, 14b, 14c, 14d) to be interconnected by applying the tool to them in succession. When using wire having relatively thick insulation, the wire is bared at the required locations before the terminals are applied.
