Abstract
1,065,671. Expanding rollers. LAWSON HEMPHILL Inc. May 22, 1964 [May 22, 1963], No. 21149/64. Heading F2U. [Also in Division G1] An expandable bobbin or pulley-for use in apparatus for measuring the stress/strain characteristics of yarn &c. (see Division G1)- comprises flanges 64 having radially extending slots 65 in which fit the ends of slats 66 of the expandable hub, and end discs 68 in spira grooves 69 of which fit pins 70 extending out wardly from the slats so that on rotation of the end discs relative to the flanges and hub, the hub is expanded or contracted. The end discs 68 are rotated by shaft 42C and the flanges and hub by sleeve 41C. Shaft 42C normally rotates with sleeve 41C but on handles on the machine frame being turned, the shaft through a planetary gear arrangement rotates relative to the sleeve. A spring 72 is fixed at one end to cover 71 connecting sleeve 41C to flange 69 and at the other end to disc 68, and eliminates any backlash in gear trains driving the shaft and sleeve.
