Abstract

A thermoplastic polyurethane is produced by reacting at 80-150 DEG C. a water-free mixture of a purely linear hydroxy terminated polymer or copolymer of a cyclic ether having a M.W. of at least 800, and an aliphatic or cyclo-aliphatic glycol having a M.W. below 500, the molar ratio of glycol to polyether being from 0.1:1 to 3.0:1, with an excess of a diisocyanate necessary to react with all the -OH groups. The cyclic ether may be an alkylene oxide, e.g. ethylene oxide, propylene oxide or epichlorhydrin, tetrahydrofuran, oxacyclo butane or a substituted derivative or mixture thereof. The diisocyanate may be aliphatic or aromatic.
