Abstract
1,064,926. Flare stack burner. JOHN ZINK CO. March 16, 1966 [March 16, 1965], No. 11618/66. Heading F4T. A flare stack burner comprises a vertical tube 10 provided at its upper outlet end with a tip 11 having peripheral openings 21 and 22 and a central opening partitioned by a plurality of open-ended upright cylindrical sleeves 28 arranged in an outer row concentrically about a central sleeve, Fig. 3 (not shown), the combustible gas escaping through openings 21, 22 and openings 29, 31 between the sleeves 28, Fig. 3, being ignited by a pilot burner 26, Fig. 1 (not shown), and the gas escaping through sleeves 28 having water droplets sprayed into it through nozzles 32. The water droplets are vaporized by the combustion of gas which escapes exteriorly of sleeves 28 and at a temperature greater than 1650‹ F. promotes carbon-steam reactions which suppresses the formation of smoke. Water is supplied to the spray nozzles 32 via pipes 33 from a main conduit 34 insulated by a covering 38. Steam may be supplied to the interior of conduit 34 through a pipe 41 and valve 42 to prevent freezing, Fig. 1, a check valve at the upper end of pipe 41 preventing water at pressures greater than that of the steam entering the pipe. A trap 44 provides for drainage of condensate from pipe 41.
