Abstract

1,064,863. Shovelling-machine. MASSEYFERGUSON Inc. March 26, 1964 [March 27, 1963], No. 13023/64. Heading E1F. The lateral swinging of a swing frame 20, carrying a bucket (56) on the end of a dipper stick and boom arrangement (Figs. 1, 2 not shown) is automatically controlled to prevent the bucket or dipper stick from striking either of two ground-engaging stabiliser arms (18) whose angular positions relative to a main frame (14) are adjustable. The frame 20 is swung through a rack and pinion 126, 128 by a fluid motor 120, which moves in either direction depending on the setting of manual valve 104. The fluid from the exhaust side of the motor is discharged through the appropriate one of valves 146 whose springs 154 are variably loaded by cams 28, integral with frame 20, engaging cam rods 160. Thus, as frame 20 approaches its extreme position the appropriate valve 146 is progressively urged to close, which stops the movement of the motor 120 and frame 20. Valves 140, 146 form integral structures 112 (Fig. 4, not shown), are pivoted at (166) to the frame (14) and are adjusted thereon by rods (168) attached to the respective stabiliser arms (18), (Fig. 3, not shown), Arms (18) may each be set in three angular positions, and the valves are moved therewith to ajust the limits of movement of the swing frame 20 within the angular positions of arms 18. Resilient bumpers (26) (Fig. 3) assist in stopping frame 20 in the extreme positions. Frame 14, on which frame 20 is pivoted, may be mounted on a tractor.
