[Also in Divisions B8 and Fl] A pipetting device useful for blood sampling comprises a reservoir for liquid, a reciprocatory pump, a supply conduit leading to the pump from the reservoir, a delivery conduit leading from the pump, and a manipulating member which at the same time as the pump is connected to the supply conduit also causes the pump to suck in liquid, and when the pump is connected to the discharge conduit, causes it to expel liquid. In a preferred embodiment, a second pump in the system sucks a different volume of a second liquid into the delivery conduit from a second reservoir and expels this volume along with the first volume of the first liquid into a third reservoir. In Fig. 3, conduits 53, 54, 55, 56 and delivery conduit 30 are initially filled with the first liquid, 64 represents the high pressure end and 63 the low pressure end of an air pump. When the ganged valves 50, 51 and 52 (which constitute the bores in the plug of a plug valve) are in the position shown by the dotted lines, pumps 24 and 20 suck liquid from the system into their barrels, and if reservoir 65 is in raised position, a volume of the second liquid equal to the volume of first liquid drawn into barrel 20, is drawn into discharge tube 30. When the valves are changed to the position shown by the full lines, the combined volumes are expelled at 30, the second liquid, for example blood being diluted, being washed out by the first. The volumes sucked in by the pumps can be altered by adjustment of the lengths of the connecting rods to the pneumatic motors 14 and 13.
