Abstract

Sliding bolts.-A bolt 6 is provided with a crescentshaped groove 5 into which a plate spring 14 is adapted to snap to retain the bolt in the shot position; the spring 14 is secured to the underside of the attachment flange 8 of the bolt casing 6. To withdraw the bolt when in the shot position, as shown in Fig. 4, the handle 3 is first turned over into engagement with the upper flange 8<1> of the casing so as to free the groove 5 from the spring 14, it is then moved laterally so that the groove 5 and spring 14 are no longer in register, this movement being permitted by an enlarged part 9 of a slot s in the bolt casing, and finally it is turned at right angles to the casing when the bolt may be withdrawn, the handle passing between projections 10 on the casing. The groove 5 may be near the end of the bolt and be engaged by a spring mounted in the bolt socket.
