Abstract

1,064,437. Air cushion vehicles. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd. Aug. 17, 1965 [Sept. 2, 1964], No. 35857/64. Heading B7K. An air cushion vehicle comprises an air impermeable panel 1 attached to and supported by a tubular inflatable structure 2, 7, 8 with a skirt 3 depending therefrom to form a plenum chamber. A rigid load-carrying platform 5 containing crew and pay-load compartments, power plant &c. is attached to the inflatable structure and panel 1. The skirt 3 may comprise a single panel or it may be double to form a duct for the supply of air to curtainforming nozzles at the base of the skirt. The structure may be inflated by a plant other than that which supplies air to the cushion. Panel 1, skirt 3 and structure 2, 7 and 8 may be rigid.
