Abstract

Detergent compositions used for dishwashing consist essentially of (i) builder salts in a major amount comprising at least one alkali metal phosphate wherein the ratio Me2O to P2O5 is from 1:1 to 3:1 and at least one solid water soluble alkali metal silicate the ratio of SiO2 to Me2O being from 0.5:1 to 3.22:1, wherein Me is sodium or potassium, (ii) sodium or potassium hydroxide and (iii) granular potassium dichlorocyanurate having a particle size distribution of at least 60% by weight through U.S. Standard Screen No. 50 and retained on U.S. Standard Screen No. 100, the components of the detergent composition being essentially anhydrous, the alkali metal hydroxide being admixed with the potassium dichlorocyanurate only in the presence of at least 30% by weight of the builder salts used, and the components being admixed for up to three minutes prior to packaging in sealed containers. Preferably, the compositions contain by weight 15 to 60% of alkali metal phosphate, 10 to 50% of alkali metal silicate, up to 30% sodium carbonate, 5 to 30% sodium or potassium hydroxide and 1 to 5% of potassium dichlorocyanurate. Specified builder salts are sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium and potassium pyrophosphates and orthophosphates, sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium metasilicate, sequicilicate and orthosilicate, and potassium metasilicate.
