Abstract
1,062,758. Ignition systems. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Nov. 7, 1963 [Nov. 14, 1962], No. 43975/63. Addition to 962, 770. Heading F1B. Also in Division H2] The internal combustion engine ignition mechanism disclosed in Figs. 7-9 of the parent Specification has a modified construction of pulse generator which eliminates the need for two pole pieces by using the timer plate as part of the magnetic circuit. Mounted on timer plate 30 is annular magnet 36 and annular coil 40 wound on bobbin 42a which fits securely within the magnet On the upper edge of magnet 30 is secured a laminated pole piece 32 with radially inwardly extending pole teeth to co-operate with complementary teeth on rotor 64 of magnetic material. Rotor 64 is brazed to bush 62 of magnetic material and is journalled on bearing bush 16 and driven through a centrifugal advance mechanism so that its angular position relative to the shaft can alter with engine speed. A distributor rotor is mounted from the upper end of bush 62 to co-operate with contacts in plastics cap 88. The timer plate is connected to a vacuum unit for movement relative to base 10.
