Abstract

The continuous production of granulated superphosphate containing at least 50% available P2O5 by mixing at 63 DEG to 105 DEG C. orthophosphoric acid containing 26-54% available P2O5, with finely divided phosphate rock containing not more than 26% available P2O5 to form a slurry in which the ratio of P2O5 derived from the acid to that derived from the rock is 2.3: 1 to 4.0: 1, discharging the slurry into a granulator where it is combined with recycled granular superphosphate in a ratio of recycled material to slurry of 5: 1 to 12: 1 and formed into granules, drying the resultant granules above 150 DEG C. for 10 minutes -16 hours, grading the dried granules, grinding the oversize granules and recycling them with the fine granules to the granulator. The slurry is fed to the downstream end of the granulator and the recycled superphosphate granules to the upstream end. All percentages are by weight.
