Abstract
1,061,200. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. MILLEN INDUSTRIES Inc. Dec. 13, 1963, No. 49256/63. Heading B5K. [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for wrapping cylindrical objects includes means for spacing them on a web as it is folded about them and then longitudinally sealed to tubular form and means for separating individual articles by rotating the leading one with the enclosing tube and heat sealing and severing the resulting twist. Skewed driven rollers 23, Figs. 1, 7 (not shown), rotate and pull forward the leading article to produce a twist under tension, the twist then being engaged between shielded heaters 39 for fusing and severing. The heaters are mounted on discs 33, Fig. 10, synchronized but friction driven at a greater rate than the article speed so that the drive slips while the shields ride along the article (position P). Interengaging elements 43, 44, mounted on the discs, ensure correct location of the heaters during sealing. Driven rolls 41 discharge the package from the machine. The apparatus is adjustable for different package sizes.
