Abstract

[Also in Division D1] A jet of compressed air is used to assist the passage of synthetic plastics buttons along a slide from a container to the stitching point of a button sewing machine. As shown, buttons pass in succession from a container down a first slide to a cylinder adapted to rotate one way or the other for presenting each button right side up to a second slide 5. The button is conveyed by the latter to a station 7 where it is rotated by a plunger 9 to align its holes with pins 10 on the end of a pivoted arm 11. The latter then transfers the button to clamping jaws 12 at the stitching point 8. Plunger 9 is raised after actuation to close a micro-switch 15, whereby an electric timer is energized to open a solenoid valve for a predetermined time interval. Compressed air thereby flows to a first nozzle so positioned as to free a button from said rotary cylinder, and also passes to a second nozzle 24 adapted to assist the button along slide 5.
