Building materials, e.g. slabs, tiles &c., are packed on a pallet 1, Figs. 1, 2 (latter not shown), having side walls 5, (6), 9, (10), with one or more similarly filled intermediate platforms (8), Figs. 1, 3 (latter not shown), on top, downwardly depending side walls O of these platforms engaging over the contents of the pallet. In the embodiment, both the pallet and platforms have partition walls (4), (4<SP>1</SP>) so that two or more rows of slabs 7 can be packed in them. The platforms also have side walls 5<SP>1</SP>, (6) 9<SP>1</SP>, (10<SP>1</SP>). Metal bands N, 11, surrounding the side walls and each row of slabs respectively, assist in rigidifying the package. Similarly a complete stack may be secured with additional bands (22), Fig. 4 (not shown).
