Abstract
1,060,648. Endless conveyers. J. TATURA. Nov. 28, 1963 [Nov. 29, 1962], No. 47036/63. Heading B8A. [Also in Division F2] A ropeway 1 for a ropeway supported endless conveyer belt 3 comprises two parallel loops of rope interconnected by distance rods 2 to form an endless band providing an upper load-bearing lap and a lower return lap and a driving drum c for the band comprising an axle 11 carrying a set of radial drums 14 having driving parts 15 for the loops and being, between their driving parts pivotally mounted about an axis perpendicular to the axle 11 so that the driving diameters for the loops are free to change in opposite senses to balance uneven tensions in the loops. The two loops of the ropeway are formed from one length of steel cable, the middle section 1a of which runs across the conveyer track and is positioned and adjustably retained by pulleys 5 and a clamp 7 on a cross-member E and the two ends of rope from the pulleys 5 run over the driving and reversible return drums C, D, forming the loops, around pins 6 on the member E and are coupled at B to the opposite loop. The arms 14 of the driving drum C are pivotally mounted to the periphery of a disc 12 carried by the axle 11 and parallel to the axle 11. Each arm 14 comprises the two fixed rubbercoated bearing sections 15 with flanges 16 to prevent the rope slipping from the seating and a roller 17 on which the belt 3 is supported. Limit discs 13 are slidably adjustable on the axle 11 to limit the amount of taper of the driving drum in operation and for resetting the arms parallel. The return drum D comprises a freely rotating centre drum constructed of metal strips, for the belt 3 and a freely rotating flanged disc at each end for the loops of rope. The rope is supported between driving and return drums by further drums or discs. The belt is supported freely on the distance rods 2 or may be bolted to troughing supports 18 provided on the rods. Before operation, the tension in both loops may be adjusted by releasing clamp 7 and adjusting one of the rope ends 1b in one of the couplings B. The rope sections are secured in each coupling by friction inserts under loading from a screw (Fig. 9, not shown). In a further embodiment the arms 14 comprise rotating flanged bearings from the ropes, which are connected through a spur gear such that as one bearing rotates one way it causes the other to rotate the opposite way.
