Abstract

106,062. Sykes, H. Dec. 29, 1916. Shaft couplings.-In a flexible coupling, applicable to electromotors, motor-cars, and shafting, radial projections c<1> on one member c<2> engage loosely in correspondingly shaped internal recesses or pockets b in the other member. The sides of the projections c' are faced with blocks of rubber or other resilient material d which bear against the sides of the internally projecting portions b<1> of the pockets b. The pockets may be formed in a ring a bolted to a disk a<1>, or projections such as b<1> may be formed on or secured to the disk a'. An annular recess a<2> is formed in the plate a' to permit the shafts to be out of alinement, and the parts of the coupling are so engaged as to permit longitudinal expansion of the shafts. The resilient blocks may be secured to the sides of the projections b<1>, and may be faced with metal or impregnated with graphite.
