Abstract

The invention comprises the novel compound 2,2,2,-trichloroethyl hydrogen succinate and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, which may be prepared by reacting 2,2,2,-trichloro-ethanol with succinic anhydride and, if desired, salifying the product.ALSO:Therapeutic compositions which have hypnotic activity and which may be administered orally or parenterally contain as active ingredient 2,2,2-trichloroethyl hydrogen succinate or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and may also contain bis-2,2,2-trichloroethyl succinate. They may alternatively contain 2,2,2-trichloroethyl hydrogen succinate and an approximately equivalent amount of an alkali metal or ammonium carbonate or bicarbonate.
