Abstract

Lubricant compositions comprise (1) a synthetic ester derived from a polyol containing 2-4 hydroxyl groups and either a saturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid or a mixture thereof with a saturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, (2) a diarylamine, aryl alkaryl amine or dialkaryl amine, and (3) a metal chelate of formula <FORM:1059489/C4-C5/1> where Y is H or NO2; M is Ni, Co or Zn; X is H, CH3, or Cl; and R is 2-ethylhexyl or a group of one of the formulae <FORM:1059489/C4-C5/2> <FORM:1059489/C4-C5/3> <FORM:1059489/C4-C5/4> Typical of many specified ingredients are (1) trimethylolpropane divalerate monopelargonate and bis-(pentaerythritol tricaproate) sebacate; (2) phenyl alpha- and beta-naphthylamine, and p,p1-dioctyldiphenylamine, and (3) nickel bis-(N-phenyl-5-nitrosalicylimine).ALSO:Trimethylolpropane divalerate monopelargonate is prepared by reacting 2.0 moles of TMP, 4.8 moles of valeric acid, and 2.4 moles of pelargonic acid in xylene solution in the presence of activated carbon.
