Abstract

1,058,902. Retractive switches; switch cases. DOWTY ELECTRICS Ltd. July 31, 1964 [May 3, 1963 (2)], Nos. 17493/63 and 17494/63. Heading H2B. A method of switch adjustment to facilitate switch operation by a predetermined movement of the switch plunger after assembly is provided for by the switch-actuating projection 44 of the plunger assembly being a screw located in a bore of a plunger 40 operated by depression of a plunger 42. Springs make the plunger 42 retractive and allow for overtravel movement. Projection 44 operates a switch actuating lever 25 of a snap-action mechanism which is initially adjustable by appropriate bending of the fixed contact strips 35, 36 and rotation of an adjustable stop 31 to alter the contact pressures between movable contact 28 and the fixed contacts 35, 36. The metal cover 1 and base 2 are maintained in contact by abutment 55 of the cover 1, during adjustment of projection 44, and are soldered together when all adjustments have been made. Inert gas may fill the interior. The terminal posts 13, 14, 15 are enclosed by an insulating moulding 47 riveted to the cover 1, and a cold setting resin 51 fills the space between moulding 47 and base 2. The switch is mounted by bolts through transverse tubes 50 on the base 2.
