A secondary cell has one or more groups of interleaved positive and negative plates incorporated into a single, continuous matrix of porous or micro-porous material of natural or synthetic rubber, or rubber-like resinous or polymer material. The matrix may have a conventional case or may be coated with an impermeable layer to complete the battery.
