Abstract
1,058,892. Mud flaps for motor cars and similar vehicles. T. BECH. Jan. 19, 1965 [Jan. 20, 1964], No. 2284/65. Heading B7J. A mud flap for motor cars and similar vehicles comprises four or more rubber or plastic lamellae 11 each of which is formed at or near its ends integrally with spacers having bores therein through which are passed support cords or wires which are fastened at their upper ends to the inner side of the fixed rear mudguard of the motor car to mount the mud flap behind the associated wheel and below the axle thereof. In an embodiment, Fig. 2, the spacers 12 extend from the upper faces only of the lamellae at points spaced inwards from the ends of each lamella 11. The lamellae 11 are supported horizontally by the support wires 14, and have a convex rear edge and a concave front edge of V-shape, or curved shape (not shown), with apices 17, 18. The support wires 14, Fig. 7 (not shown) are secured at their lower ends to discs (15), and their upper ends are bent to eyes and retained by eye clamps (16) which are secured to the inner side of the mud guard so that there is free space between the top lamella and the clamps (16). In another embodiment. Fig. 1 (not shown), the lamellae (1) are rectangular, and the spacers (2) comprise cylinders joined at their mid points to the ends of each lamella (1) and having bores through which extend support strings (3) of which the lower ends are secured to the underside of the lowest lamella. In a further embodiment. Fig. 8 (not shown), the lamellae (11a) are tilted downwards at their rear edges, and the bores (13a) in the spacers (12) correspond at their upper ends to the diameter of the wire but at their lower ends are enlarged.
