Abstract

1,058,765. Protective arrangements. BALDWIN & FRANCIS Ltd. Nov. 2, 1964 [Aug. 19. 1963], No. 32709/63. Heading H2K. An earth leakage protective system comprises an impedance 17, 18 and an A.C. source 20, 15, having a frequency which is relatively high with respect to the mains frequency, connected between earth 19 and an artificial neutral point 11 provided by inductors 12 star-connected to the phase conductors ] 3. The point 11 is also connected to earth 14 through a capacitor 13 so that under normal conditions the H.F. current flows in the circuit 14... 19 and biases a transistor 22 so that it produces a highfrequency output which is amplified at 23. transformed at 24, rectified at 28 and energizes a relay 27 which at contacts 29 completes the energizing circuit of a contactor 4, 5. In the event of an earth fault, current of mains frequency flowing to earth through the impedance 17, 18 causes the transistor 22 to be altemately cut-off and overdriven so suppressing the H.F component from the output of the transistor 22. The transformer 24 presents a lower impedance to the mains frequency current and relay 27 releases causing the contactor to open.
