Abstract

1,058,696. Microtomes. BRAZENDALE & CO. Ltd., [trading as HAB TECHNICAL PRODUCTS]. Sept. 17, 1964, No.37939/64. Heading G2J. An anti-roll plate 42, Fig. 2, for a microtome is of transparent material having strong resistance to warping and a low co-efficient of friction such as a borosilicate glass plate with a sintered coating of polytetrafluoroethylene. The plate is precision ground with a part left unground to form a kerb 1/16 inch wide on each edge and it is so mounted that it may be aligned horizontally parallel to the knife edge and parallel in both planes to the knife facet. The mounting arrangement comprises a gantry 10 supporting a bracket 12, Fig. 1, (not shown), pivotally carrying a rocker arm 14 whose angular position is controlled by screw 17 and springs 19. The arm 14 has limbs 15, 16, rotatably supporting a spindle 20 whose angular position is controlled by knob 27 and spring 28, Fig. 3 (not shown), anchored, between a bracket 24 on spindle 20 and rocker arm 14 at 30, the angular position of spindle 20 determining that of a yoke 35 carried by spring- loaded pistons 33, 34 working in cylinders 31, 32 secured to spindle 20. The yoke 35 is moved forwardly and rearwardly by a screw 36. The plate 42 is carried by a member 40 whose screwthreaded stem 39a engages a bearing 38a on a sleeve 37a pivoted to yoke 35.
