[Also in Division G6] The lower wall of a filter housing 6 carries a tube 9, which dips into a liquid bath 18 to form a hermetic seal with a gas delivery conduit 16, and a spring-loaded valve 26 which is held off its seat 28 by the end of conduit 16. When the filter is dirty, housing 6 is lifted and valve 26 closes before tube 9 breaks clear of the liquid. The arrangement is used in nuclear installations, where coolant or ventilation gas is filtered before its discharge to atmosphere, and ensures that radioactive dust is not spilt from the filter element during demounting. The liquid in bath 18 is pitch and is melted by a heater 22 before demounting. Filter housing 6 (Fig. 1, not shown) is mounted on, a movable chassis by which it is lifted by remote handling, centring devices, locating the chassis on a fixed frame in a cell, being thereby detached, after which the chassis may move sideways.
