Abstract
1,058,203. Magnetic compositions. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. Aug. 1, 1963 [Aug. 3, 1962], No. 30551/63. Heading H1H. A square loop manganese ferrite contains between 0À5 and 20% by weight of palladium and/or platinum. The palladium or platinum exists as a separate phase in particles 1500 Š long and the effect of the separate phase is to inhibit domain wall movement. A memory matrix is described, in which each element has a sintered toroidal core of the material and flux switching takes place by domain rotation, thus achieving faster switching times than in known toroidal cores. Examples are given showing the effect of different proportions of palladium or platinum and different firing times.
