Abstract

Novel compounds of the formula <FORM:1058170/C2/1> wherein R = H or CH3 and "Hal" is a halogen atom are made by reacting ephedrine or N-norephedrine with a p-halophenoxyacetylating agent, e.g. a phenoxyacetyl anhydride such as the mixed anhydride formed between a p-halophenoxyacetic acid and isobutyl chloroformate, or by reacting an N-(2-haloacetyl)-ephedrine or N-nor-ephedrine with a p-halo-phenol. Pharmaceutical preparations having anti-depressant activity comprise the above compounds in association with a carrier either in solid forms such as tablets, powders, dispersible granules, cachets and suppositories or as solutions, suspensions or emulsions, especially sterile solutions in aqueous media or in oils, for injection.
