Abstract
1,058,121. Rear-view mirrors. C. LUCHTENBERG, [trading as C. LUCHTENBERG KOMM. - GES. HAGUS METALLWAREN]. Aug. 21, 1963 [March 25, 1963; April 2, 1963; July 16, 1963], No. 33038/63. Heading B7J. [Also in Division E2] A clamping device for securing a wide-view mirror glass 13, Fig. 3, to an existing rear-view vehicle mirror 10, 11 comprises a holding plate or frame 14, Figs. 4 and 5, having lugs 25 thereon to mount the glass 13 and a pair of arms 17 pivoted at 16 between two plates 15 and carried by the frame (one plate 15 being removed, Fig. 4), the ends of the arms having gripping portions 18 which are urged to grip the mirror 10, 11 by springs 19 connected at 20 to at least one of the plates 15 and at 21 to the arms. The latter have thumb grips 22 and the elements 18 are slotted to receive rubber inserts. Soft rubber strips 15a are cemented to the plate 15 adjacent the mirror 10 to protect the latter. According to the embodiment of Fig. 7 arms 17a are independently pivoted to a member 27 secured to the holding plate 14a and have lugs 21a engaging in slots 28 in a sliding T-shaped member 29 having a single gripping element at its upper end. In another embodiment described with reference to Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown) two separate holding plates are each provided with a pair of opposed slidable gripping elements urged towards each other by a pair of springs. According to a further embodiment described with reference to Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown) the holding plate has one pair of gripping elements to engage one edge of the wide-view mirror glass and has two slots to receive rivets on a movable member having two gripping elements to engage the other edge of the mirror glass, the plate and member being connected by a pair of springs. In a still further embodiment the holding plate carries a pair of hooked springs as described with reference to Figs. 15 and 16 (not shown), the springs serving as gripping elements.
