Abstract

1,057,868. Valves. CLAYTON MARK & CO. Aug. 22, 1963 [Sept. 4, 1962 (2)], No. 33305/63. Heading F2V. A ball valve comprises a body 24, Fig. 1, having a valve chamber 30, a ball valve element 38 in the chamber, and a passageway 36 communicating with the chamber, an annular spacer 58 positioned in the passageway and having a radial face to abut an opposed face in the valve body, and means 66 having V-shaped ends engageable with one of the surfaces of a V-shaped groove 68 in the spacer to hold the latter with its radially disposed face in engagement with the corresponding face on the body. The means 66 consist of set-screws having pointed ends which hold the spacer 58 to the left until the bolts 59 are tightened, leakage of fluid being prevented by an 0-ring 70. To enable the spacer, valve element and seating rings to be replaced without complete removal of the valve body, dimension a is made greater than dimension b so that the body can pivot around and be suspended from the two lowest bolts. The seating rings may be of a synthetic plastics material and each have one or more annular serrations on the rear face to provide flexible ridges which deform under pressure to improve the seating engagement with the valve body. The rings may also have a chamfered rear edge to ensure proper seating in the valve body without the use of close tolerances.
