Abstract
1,057,644. Ski bindings. L. BERCHTOLD and A. SCHUSTER. March 23, 1964 [March 22, 1963; Feb. 6, 1964], No. 12157/64. Heading A6D. A ski binding device comprises two coupling members 1, 2 releasably connecting the ends of binding cables 3, 10, the members having hook portions 8, 14 and a co-operating projection 5 and recess 6. In a forward fall the members 1, 2 will pivot with respect to the projection and recess before parting. When a skier falls laterally stop surfaces 13, 15 will act as a pivot point before the members disengage. In a second embodiment (Fig. 5) a hook portion 21 is pivotable relative to the member 2, and the ends of the cables are attached to washers normally spring urged to the upper ends of the members 1, 2. The portion 21 is normally held fixed with respect to the member 2 by a counterstop 27 which engages stop 25. When a skier falls forwardly the counterstop which is connected to the washer associated with cable 3 moves downwardly and is disengaged from stop 25 thus permitting pivotal movement of the portion 21 prior to disengagement of the members. In a further embodiment similar to that of Fig. 5, the cables are tensioned by springs at their ends adjacent a front tightener, and the counterstop is connected to the tightener by an inextensible cord. Longitudinal movement of the members moves the counterstop out of engagement with the stop on the hook portion.
