Abstract

A blower 19, Figs. 1 and 2 not shown, for cleaning a textile machine e.g. a winding machine or, as in Fig. 1, a ring spinning machine, reciprocate on rails 17 and comprises an impeller 21 driven by means such as an electric motor 22 which also drives the blower wheels 18 and is reversed at each end of the blower run e.g. by a switch 35 operated by end stops 37, 38. When impeller 21 carries a downward draught, hinged flaps 27 which can seal off a chamber 25 above the impeller, are opened and air can pass through the casing 20 to blow the centre of the frame particularly the creel bobbins 12. When the direction of travel of the blower and direction of rotation of the impeller are reversed the upward draught closes the flaps 27 and the air flows down pipes 31, 32 to nozzles 31b, 32b to be directed to the drafting head regions. In Fig. 3, not shown, the pipes are formed with a series of outlets to direct air to different parts of the machine. Opening 30 at the bottom of casing 20 may also have closure means and the chamber so formed provided with blower pipes to clean other parts of the machine. An opening in the floor adjacent the centre of the frame is provided to lead the impurities to a filter. Motor 22 picks up its current from rails 17; if a three phase motor is used a third rail is provided. Flaps 27 may be replaced by power, e.g. solenoid, operated flaps. One blower could cover two machines in which case it could be restricted to one machine to allow maintenance on the other.
