Abstract

A kaolinite clay of improved whiteness is obtained by mixing a soluble cobalt salt with a clay slurry of particles substantially 0.5 to 2m equivalent spherical diameter, adding a precipitant to precipitate the cobalt on to the particles, separating the particles and then calcining them. The clay may be bleached before treatment.
