Abstract

1,056,265. Automatic volume control. SHIPTON ELECTRONICS Ltd. Oct. 15, 1963 [Oct. 15, 1962], No. 38937/62. Heading H4R. In an audio.frequency amplifier, particularly for feeding the recording head in a telephone answering machine, automatic gain control is provided by a transistor 6 whose emittercollector impedance is shunted across the amplifier input, which impedance is varied by the amplifier output which is rectified in bridge rectifier 7, smoothed in filter R6, C3 and R5, and applied to the base of transistor 6. The transistor bias being arranged so that the transistor is cut off until the amplifier output reaches a predetermined value, any further increase resulting in a reduction of the emittercollector impedance thus tending to maintain the output constant at the predetermined value.
