Abstract

The invention comprises the 21-(1-adamantoates) of hydrocortisone, 6a -fluoro-16a -hydroxyhydrocortisone 16a ,17a -acetonide, prednisolone and 6a -fluoro-16a -methylprednisolone, and their preparation by esterification of the free 21-ols with 1-adamantoic acid anhydride, the mixed anhydride of 1-adamantoic acid and trifluoroacetic acid, or 1-adamantoic acid chloride in the presence of pyridine in an inert anhydrous solvent. The compounds of the invention have pharmaceutical activity and may be used in pharmaceutical compositions in combination with a carrier.
