Abstract

[Also in Division G1] An accessory for a microscope comprises a diaphragm 11 having an aperture, a light source 12 at one side for illuminating it, a beam splitter 7 at the other side of the diaphragm for dividing a light beam from the eyepiece 6 of a microscope 5 into a measuring light beam 9 and an observation light beam 8 and optical means arrangeable between the diaphragm and the eyepiece of the microscope for forming an image of the diaphragm aperture in the image plane 2 of the observation light beam 8. The beam splitter 7 may take various forms, Figs. 2-4, (not shown) and a camera 18, Fig. 5, (not shown), may be provided. The diaphragm may be formed by an aperture in a mirror 103, Fig. 6, (not shown), and a pivoted mirror 104 may allow for displacement of the two partial images formed by reflection at the respective mirrors. In a further form, Fig. 7, (not shown), a beam splitter 202 and observation arrangement, not shown, is provided similar to that, 7, 8, 1, 2 of Fig.1, and after the aperture of diaphragm 203 has been adjusted in size so that its image corresponds to that of the object in the microscope, a light sensitive element 208 is inserted and its output gives a measure of the size of diaphragm 203 and thus of the required object.
