Abstract

105,515. Hay, M. F., and Ekama, G. Nov. 4, 1916. Submarine vessels. - Submarines are fitted with fore and aft torpedo tubes rendered water-tight by a single cover so arranged that the cover and tube conform to the contour of the boat this cover being actuated by link-work so arranged that, in the open or closed position, no force is transmitted from the cover to the actuating-mechanism. The cover 2 is hinged at 3 to the torpedo tube 1 and is connected by a link 15 to a lever 13 pivoted to the tube at 12. The lever 13 is coupled by a link 10 to a belt crank lever 9 connected by a link 5 to the actuating mechanism. The shaft 7 on which the lever 9 is mounted extends to the lower side of the tube, where it is fitted with a crank-arm adaptei to actuate a similar linkage mechanism. The pivot 12 and the pivot 16 between the link 15 and the cover are made adjustable.
