Abstract
1,054,001. Heat exchange tubes. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Feb. 10, 1965 [Feb. 14, 1964], No. 5812/65. Addition to 960,349. Heading F4S. [Also in Division G6] In a modification of a tubular heat exchange element described in the parent Specification at least one cutaway portion 4 is provided at the tip of each fin to improve the mechanical stability of the fins. As shown, a sheath 3 for a nuclear fuel element has fins extending over an even number of sectors 2a, 2b, 2c ... &c. over which a cooling fluid flows. The cutaway may be in the form of a groove 4 cut by milling or holes made near to the edge of each fin. In another embodiment (not shown) grooves are cut in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the fins and are staggered from one fin to the next in the form of a quincunx. Dimensioned examples of suitable elements and apertures are given in the Specification. Guide blades may be located in passages 5 separating adjacent sectors.
