Abstract

1,053,413. Friction clutches. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. June 24, 1965 [Aug. 24, 1964], No. 26161/64. Heading F2C. An automatic adjusting device for taking up wear in a twin disc clutch having an intermediate drive plate 1 connected by laminated spring straps 3 (Fig. 1, not shown) to a driving flywheel 4 carrying a pressure plate 7 urged by a diaphragm spring 8, carried on a clutch cover 5, to drivingly engage clutch plates 2 which are arranged one each side of the intermediate drive plate 2, comprises a dished spring steel washer 13 located in a closed recess 12 in the plate 1 and having radially inward tongues which frictionally grip, in one direction, an axial pin 11 located with play between the flywheel 4 and an adjustable stop 15 secured to the clutch cover 5, the play between the flywheel 4 and stop 15 determining the disengaged position of the intermediate plate 1, the washer 13 being shifted along the pin 11 towards the flywheel 4 as the clutch plates 2 wear to maintain the clearance between the clutch plates constant when the clutch is disengaged irrespective of wear, the tongues of the washer 13 gripping the pin 11 to prevent reverse movement.
