Abstract
1,053,117. Comparators; digital conversions. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. March 19, 1964, No. 11592/64. Headings G4H and G4M. A comparator uses a store in which sense windings are coupled to unique combinations of storage locations to represent predetermined words, a word to be compared with the latter being read-in by setting the locations corresponding to it to a first state, all the locations then being set to the same state so that only the sense line corresponding to the input word senses no change. The locations are shown as single magnetic cores but may be bi-stable transistor circuits, cryogenic devices or pairs of cores. The arrangement may be used for 2-out-of-5-coded-decimal to 1-out-of-n conversion. Alternatively each sense winding may be coupled to one location only per column of a matrix of locations, the rows corresponding to English letters and the columns to letter positions in English words.
