Apparatus for sawing openings, such as doorways, in stone or concrete structures comprises a guide track 11 composed of a plurality of track units each attachable to the structure to be sawn and mutually engageable in end-to-end relation, a carriage 13 having mounting means to engage and guide it along the track, traversing means operatively engaged between the carriage and the track for moving the carriage along the track from unit to unit, and means on the carriage for supporting and rotating a disc saw 16. The track consists of a number of units 11A, 11B, Fig. 5 (not shown), each unit having a number of lightening apertures 46. Each of the adjacent ends 47, 48 of the units is formed with an aperture 46A, 46B of half the length of an aperture 46 and an insert 49 is mounted in aperture 46B so as to extend into aperture 46A and provide a coarse aligning means between the units, accurate alignment being obtained by pins 62. The units are formed with counterbored holes 64 for receiving bolts whereby the units can be secured to the face 12 of the structure to be cut; and with tapped holes 65 for receiving threaded studs 66 whereby the units can be adjusted to be in a plane parallel to the generally planar surface of the structure. Each unit is provided with a rack 59 which is engaged by the pinion 60, Fig. 3 (not shown), of a pneumatic motor 26 mounted on a carriage 21 having, at each corner, a block 22 rotatably supporting rollers 23, 24, 25 for co-operating with rails 50, 51 on the track units. The carriage supports a pair of posts 27 on which a frame 29 is slidably adjustable by a screw 32 rotatable by a crank 35, the frame carrying a motor 37 connected by a reduction gear-box 38 to a shaft having a clamp 40 for a disc saw which is preferably diamond toothed, rotation of the screw by the crank adjusting the depth of cut of the saw. The motor 37 is driven by a high pressure air supply around 100 lb./sq. inch, and the supply is connected through a pressure regulator and a reversing valve to the motor 26 driving the carriage, the supply to the motor 26 being approximately 20 lb./sq. inch. The saw is equipped with a guard 17 and a water cooling supply. Some of the rollers are mounted in eccentric sleeves which are angularly adjustable so that the rollers can be maintained in contact with the rails regardless of wear.
