Abstract

1,052,741. Electrically released switches; switches held set and freed mechanically ALBRIGHT (ENGINEERS) Ltd. June 7, 1963 [March 8, 1962; April 11, 1962], Nos 9017/62 and 14023/62. Heading H2B. An electric switch which is subsequently closed and opened on successive energizations of an electromagnet has a latch which holds the contacts in the closed position and is moved at each operation to effect change-over of a contact set in series with the solenoid of the electromagnet. On energization of solenoid 2 or manual operation of a knob 8 the armature 6 moves to the right to move a member 12 in the same direction. A sleeve 19 attached to the member 12 has projections 38 having cam faces 39 which engage a latch member 41 to move it away from a fixed stop 43 and then rotate it through 90 degrees. The member 41 is mounted on a shaft 17 carrying the resiliently mounted main contact bridge 24 which engages fixed contacts 32, 33 as the shaft 17 is moved by the latch member 41. The latter has a cam ring 42 which as the member is turned acts on a spring-biased pin 41 to operate a change-over contact set (Fig. 3, not shown) in series with the solenoid 2. The member 41 is shaped so that after one 90 degrees turn its end will abut the stop 43 (Figs. 6 and 8, not shown) to hold the contacts 24, 32, 33 closed and after the next 90 degrees a slot 46 in the member 41 allows it to return to the Fig. 1 position as biased by springs 36, 48.
